Innovative LFd filter controls lighting conditions in poultry houses

Design Engineers at Munters have used state-of-the-art Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software to develop the new LFd light filter, obtaining a perfect balance between light and airflow reduction.

Light and ventilation play a vital role in modern poultry farming. The ability to adjust and control the light in poultry houses helps growers reap the benefits that come from improved production.

How it works
The LFd is mounted on the ventilation openings of a poultry house, allowing for the free passage of air, but absorbing the bright outside light.  In this way a perfectly dark poultry house can be created, ideal for the use of any type of light manipulation.

The light filter’s curved vanes reflect light back and forth between their two sides. Each reflection absorbs some of the light, thereby decreasing its intensity. The curvature of the LFd filter’s vanes gives a balanced combination of light reflections without disturbing the airflow passage.

Reducing light levels, creating total darkness
Munters LFd light filter can be applied to air inlets and exhaust openings to create dark-out conditions inside a poultry house while there is bright sunshine outside. The filter can reduce light levels of 160,000 lux to as little as 0.1 lux, creating total darkness.   The LFd light filter is suitable for mounting onto air inlets, fans and pad openings. It is easy to wash and quick to assemble. With its compact dimensions, the LFd light filter is also easy to transport.
